“Your mind is like this water, my friend. When it is agitated, it becomes difficult to see. But if you allow it to settle, the answer becomes clear.” – Master Oogway, Kung Fu Panda 2008
“Oh yes, the past can hurt. But from the way I see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it.” – Rafiki, The Lion King 1994
Hi my name is Christopher Kaheel. I practice therapy through the ways of two wise animated animals.
Rafiki, a mandrill whose philosophy is to not let your past dictate the way you live today but use it as a tool to guide you towards an enriched tomorrow. Oogway, a tortoise, who provided a message that if we take a moment to not rush towards tomorrow, clearer paths may reveal.
One of my approaches to therapy is to help form a new relationship with the emotions and thoughts. Imagine the energy used to make a “bad feeling” go away. Now imagine spending that energy on something that truly mattered to you.
I have particular interest and experience working with anxiety and depression, disordered eating, eating disorders in athletes and the sports world. When working with children to early adolescents, I believe family involvement is key to achieve the best outcomes—so I involve family as much as possible.
I look forward to working with you! You can find me in the JSA Columbia, SC office.
