“You can persevere…there is no substitute for hard work”
Jo-Ana Hammond, LPC-A
My dad had this quote framed in our living room growing up, and he said this to me each morning on the way to school. I loved my dad and he influenced me more than anyone else. He showed me how to work hard to achieve what I believe in and how not to be afraid when the going gets tough.
I think of this quote often when I see how brave my clients are coming into the office to meet with me the first time. And when they come the second and third times! It takes courage and hard work to persevere through our blocks, our problems, our heartaches. To face them in therapy and be open, vulnerable, looking at our shadow side.
Even though therapy is hard work, it is primarily wrapped in joy, laughter and many easy, comforting moments of being with someone who understands and validates.
My training in DBT has been essential as I have worked with teens and families and parents for many years in a high school setting. I am also trained in TF-CBT. I work with trauma, anxiety, depression and behavior regulation.
At JSA, I see all ages from 10 years old up…tweens, adolescents, adults at all stages of their growth. I am proud to be welcoming of all sexual orientations and backgrounds, religions and beliefs. I look forward to meeting you!
