Parents often tell us their child has said “Mom and Dad, please find me a counselor to talk to.” Ongoing proof that the therapy paradigm is changing, and our wise young ones can feel it:
It makes sense to talk to someone about our inner world and the social, school, family pressures and realities that collide daily.
Typically, we will first meet with mom or dad (or both) to get to know about your child and find out what your goals are for therapy. The next session we will meet with your child and begin to get to know him or her. This is a casual, comfortable environment with lots of games, laughter, drawing, even nature-walking.
Family is always a part of the process, as our goal is for your child to not only get to know themselves, but to be able to reach for you in their times of pain and confusion. We pull in parents on a regular basis—siblings, too.
We are amazed at the growth and changes we see in the kids we work with. It is an honor to help them with their feelings.
Examples of feelings they might be experiencing:
- Sadness and depression
- Social and school worries
- Focus problems
- Feelings of disconnection or anger towards parents and siblings
- Blended family struggles
- Grief and trauma
- Fear of change
- And those who are simply on a journey of understanding themselves and processing life.
